How does an AI quiz maker work?
To make a quiz in Recall, save a PDF, article, video, or note, open its Quiz tab, and click Generate Questions. Check the questions, edit any you want, then choose Share Challenge to get a link or QR code anyone can use to take the quiz without an account.
Save a video, podcast, or PDF
Add a PDF, an article, a YouTube video, a podcast, a Google Slides deck, or a note you write. That save is what the quiz is made from.
Generate the quiz
Open the save and choose Generate Questions. Pick multiple choice, true or false, fill in the blank, short answer, matching, ordering, or flashcards.
Check the quiz questions
Read each question against the source. Edit the wording, the answer, or the options. Delete a question, or write one yourself.
Share a link or a QR code
On the Quiz tab, choose Share Challenge. Copy the link, or show the QR code. People enter a display name and take the same questions. You see the results on the leaderboard.

Generate questions from something you saved. When the quiz is ready, share a link or a QR code so other people can take it.
What happens when someone opens the quiz?
They land on the quiz, enter a display name, and take the same questions. No Recall account is required. Scores show on a leaderboard.
No account needed to play
The link and the QR code open for anyone. They type a display name before they start. That name is what the leaderboard shows.
Players can open the source
They can open the study material before they answer. The quiz is not a file with the source removed.
A public leaderboard
People are ranked by score. When two scores match, the shorter time ranks higher. The challenge does not change your own review schedule.
More than one person
How is this different from a quiz only you take?
A quiz only you take ends with your own score. Here is how a shared quiz from Recall compares on who can open it, accounts, scores, and price.
| Feature | Recall | A quiz only you take |
|---|---|---|
| Capture | ||
What you start with | A saved PDF, article, video, podcast, slide deck, or note | A paste or a file you leave behind |
Who can open it | Anyone with the link or the QR code | Only you, unless you export a file |
| Memory | ||
An account | Not required to take the quiz | Often required to see the result |
The scores | A public leaderboard, ranked by score | Your own answers, with nowhere to compare |
| Organization | ||
Your review schedule | The challenge leaves it alone | Not separate from your own practice |
| Limits | ||
A live room | Not this. People take it when they open the link | Varies by tool |
| Value | ||
Price to start | Free to start, with unlimited saves and 10 AI summaries a month | Varies, and many cap or charge per use |

The link keeps the questions you shared
Share Challenge saves a snapshot. If you edit the questions later, the link stays on the old set until you update it. Updating resets the leaderboard.
Copy the link
Send it in a chat, an email, or a class thread. The person opens it and enters a name.
Or show the QR code
Put the code on a screen. People scan it on their own phones and take the same quiz.
Update the shared quiz on purpose
If the questions have changed, the app tells you. Updating the shared quiz clears the scores already on the leaderboard.

“I've been building several second brains for years and whenever I see a new way to do it, I don't like changing because my other systems already work. But I'm always willing to try because you never know which one would be a drastic improvement on what you're already using. Recall is one of them.”
